									<div><p>While gay marriage was declared legal in California by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_re_Marriage_Cases">a court ruling in May of 2008</a>, it was later made illegal in November of 2008 by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_8_(2008)">Proposition 8</a>. The California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8 in May 2009, but determined gay marriages performed in the months gay marriage was legal will remain valid in California.</p></div>								</div>
